Actor Frank Langella said, “One of the safest places to be in the world is the stage.”
For our musicians, the hometown stage varies from higher education buildings to libraries to churches and so much more. Take a glimpse at where our musicians have left their mark in Maryland:
Baker Park Bandshell. Located in Downtown Frederick, this stage was used for the Frederick Camerata’s opening concert, Buster And Charlie At The Park with silent film scorer Ben Model.
Carroll Creek Amphitheater. In August 2016, the Frederick Camerata took stage in Downtown Frederick to play Classics On The Creek, which included Philip Glass’ String Quartet No. 5, Movement III; C.P.E. Bach’s Symphony No. 3 in F major; and Josef Haydn’s Symphony No. 88 in G major.
Frederick Community College. Jack B Kussmaul Theater is the main stage for the FSO musicians. For the past four seasons, we played classical music concerts, such as:
- American Salute
- Classical Favorites
- España!
- Forbidden Love
- From Darkness To Light
- Holiday Pops
- Magic Is In The Air
- A Mannheim Steamroller Christmas
- Northern Lights

Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL). The Frederick Symphony Orchestra offers free classical music concerts for children in partnership with FCPL. Family Tunes & Tales consists of three programs, including Symphony Storytime, which gives budding music lovers a chance to explore the art through books read aloud with live music and an instrument petting zoo presented by Music & Arts.
The other programs include Kids Go Classic Concerts, which are narrated concerts with engaging performances by our Chamber Ensembles, and Music Makers/Little Music Makers for preschool and elementary ages.
Our musicians and FCPL have visited many locations, including:
- Brunswick Branch Library
- C. Burr Artz Public Library in Frederick
- Edward F. Fry Memorial Library in Point of Rocks
- Emmitsburg Branch Library
- Friends Of The Library: Thurmont Regional Library
- Middletown Branch Library
- Urbana Regional Library

Hood College. For the first time ever, Hood opened its doors to the Frederick Symphony Orchestra this year. We played at Coffman Chapel, performing Symphonic Pipes At Hood College during our 20th Anniversary season. The Frederick Camerata also played American Season at Brodbeck Music Hall this summer.
International Community Church. In 2013, this church in Frederick served as the stage for Ode To Joy, a pair of concerts that included Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Op. 96; Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B Minor, Unfinished; and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor with a combined chorus prepared by Andrew Rosenfeld.
McClintock Distilling. Located in Frederick, this distillery served as a first-time stage for the Frederick Camerata who performed Dances For A Summer Evening this summer. The classical music concert included Astor Piazzola’s Two Dances from Estaciones Porteñas, Béla Bartók’s Dances From Transylvania, Scott Joplin’s Two Rags: Bethena and The Easy Winners, and Johann Strauss II’s Emperor Waltz.
Mount St. Mary’s University. Horning Theater in Emmitsburg was the second location for our Camerata this summer, as our musicians performed Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring (Suite for 13 Instruments) and other works as part of American Season.
The National Shrine Of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Located in Emmitsburg, this church serves as a prime location for our Camerata. This summer, our musicians played Dances For A Summer Evening. Prior to that, the concert was Symphonies At The Basilica.
