The Frederick Symphony Orchestra (FSO) will be performing Poulenc and the Pines on Mar. 18, 2018 at 3 p.m. in Coffman Chapel at Hood College.
The FSO’s fourth concert of the 2017-2018 season will begin with an original arrangement of Frederick, Maryland, native Francis Scott Key’s Star-Spangled Banner by special guests The U.S. Army Herald Trumpets.
The composition will be followed by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Procession of the Nobles from Mlada with the FSO brass ensemble and organ soloists Wayne Wold and David Lang.
The composition will be followed by Organ Concerto by French composer Francis Poulenc conducted by Andrew Rosenfeld and featuring organ soloist Lang, as well as a special narrated presentation by The United States Army Herald Trumpets.
The presentation will be conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Derrick Shaw and feature the following classical music compositions:
- Liberty Fanfare and Olympic Fanfare by American composer John Williams
- Call to Statesmanship by American composer Jim Kessler
- Australia Antiphonal and Heroic Fanfare by American composer Paul Murtha
- Bugler’s Dream by French composer Leo Arnaud
- Triumphant Fanfare by American composer Michael Brown
An FSO performance of The Pines of Rome by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi will conclude the classical music concert.
