The Frederick Symphony Orchestra will perform Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker on Dec. 9, 2017 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Jack B. Kussmaul Theater at Frederick Community College.

The second Masterworks concert’s feature composition, Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker, draws inspiration from Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s two-act ballet of the same name, flawlessly fusing tradition and modernity.

Our holiday concerts will also include the following:

  • Christmas Festival and Sleigh Ride by award-winning American composer Leroy Anderson
  • Ancient Airs and Dances Set I by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi with guest conductor Andrew Rosenfeld
  • Holiday Pops Sing Along by American composer Bob Cerulli with guest conductor Rosenfeld
  • Suite Antique by British composer John Rutter with a solo by principal flutist Paulela Burchill
  • Prayer from Jewish Life No. 1 by American-Swiss composer Ernest Bloch with a solo by principal cellist Tom Mitchell
