The Frederick Symphony Orchestra is partnering with Frederick County Public Libraries and Music & Arts for community outreach and educational programming.
The FSO and Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL) are committing to community outreach and educational programming in 2017 and beyond with Family Tunes & Tales.
Family Tunes & Tales consists of three programs for families, including Symphony Storytime, Kids Go Classic concerts, and Music Makers Jr. (formerly known as Music Makers), to increase and enhance free music education, facilitate academic achievement, and develop creative capacities for lifelong success.
At Symphony Storytime, children experience books read aloud, accompanied by live music and an instrument petting zoo provided by local instrument repair shop Music & Arts.
Kids Go Classic concerts are a narrated concert series, performed by the FSO’s Chamber Ensemble, and Music Makers Jr. is a set of free classes for ages 3 to 8 that engage children’s natural love for songs, musical instruments, movement, and imaginative play with activities that introduce early music concepts.
“Music is a critical part of young children’s growth and development,” said Robyn Monaco, FCPL Children’s Librarian and co-creator of Family Tunes & Tales, which is made possible in part by a grant from the Frederick Arts Council and the Community Foundation of Frederick County.
“As a result of our successful partnership with Frederick Symphony Orchestra musicians, Music & Arts, and through generous grant funding, we are excited to bring free music education storytimes, concerts and programs to children all throughout Frederick County.”
